What is AboutSSL?
AboutSSL is a free online service that analyzes the SSL/TLS certificates used by websites for security and configuration best practices. It is designed to help website owners, developers, and security professionals understand the encryption used on their sites.
To use AboutSSL, you simply enter a website URL and it will immediately scan the certificate and provide a report. The report covers things like:
- Certificate expiration date
- Issuing Certificate Authority
- Supported encryption protocols (TLS 1.2, 1.3 etc)
- Key length of public/private keys
- Signature algorithm used to sign the certificate
AboutSSL checks these parameters against industry best practices and standards to identify potential vulnerabilities or misconfigurations. It will warn if the certificate is using outdated/insecure settings.
The service is completely free and anonymous to use. It doesn't store or share any user data. AboutSSL was created by the non-profit Internet Security Research Group (ISRG) to promote better SSL deployment and education around TLS/SSL certificates.
