Monitor physical activity levels with Actimeter, a software tool that tracks movement, step counts, energy expenditure estimates, and sleep quality measures using an actigraph device.
Actimeter is a software application designed to work in conjunction with an actigraph device to measure and analyze physical activity and sleep patterns. Actigraph devices contain accelerometers that detect motion in multiple planes and can be worn like a watch on the wrist or hip. The raw accelerometer data collected is transferred to the Actimeter software for processing and analysis.
Within Actimeter, users can view activity counts, step counts, and estimates of energy expenditure over user-defined epochs ranging from 1 second up to several days or weeks. This allows for detailed analysis of activity and inactivity patterns throughout the day along with comparisons between time periods or groups. Various cutpoints and algorithms within the software classify the intensity of activity from sedentary to vigorous.
The software also provides analysis of sleep quality by using the actigraph data to detect sleep/wake patterns and calculate metrics like sleep efficiency, latency, total sleep time, and wake after sleep onset. Users can view daily or weekly sleep profiles and statistics.
Actimeter generates customizable graphs and reports to visualize activity and sleep data. It has filtering, annotation, and export options to process and share the data collected. The software works with several actigraph devices and research platforms. It is primarily used in medical, academic, and health-related fields for monitoring patient activity levels, analyzing intervention effectiveness in research studies, and objectively measuring sleep quality.
