What is AirSim?
AirSim is an open-source simulator developed by Microsoft for testing autonomous vehicle algorithms. It supports hardware-in-loop with popular flight controllers such as PX4 for physically and visually realistic simulations. AirSim enables development, testing and validation of:
- Deep learning for object detection and segmentation
- Reinforcement learning algorithms
- Multi-vehicle simulation with flexible vehicle types
- Integration with third party software
Some key features of AirSim:
- Photorealistic environments with fully interactive vehicles
- Built-in flight dynamics and physics engine
- Support for multiple engines like Unreal Engine and Unity
- APIs across languages like C++, Python, C# etc.
- Ability to collect training data for machine learning
AirSim has applications in autonomous aerial, ground and marine vehicles to accelerate research and development in robotics and AI.
