What is AKANDI?
AKANDI is an open source API gateway and management platform built on top of the lightweight NGINX web server. It provides a wide range of API management capabilities including:
- API security - authentication, authorization, TLS encryption, CORS, etc.
- Traffic control - rate limiting, quotas, load balancing
- Analytics and monitoring - logs, metrics, alerting
- Developer portals - onboard developers, documentation, SDK generation
- Admin UI - configure APIs, add policies, view analytics
- CLI - scripting and automation
AKANDI makes it easy for teams to publish, share, consume and manage internal and external APIs across the organization. It handles cross-cutting API concerns like security, traffic, analytics, developer onboarding so teams can focus on building API business logic.
As an open source project built on NGINX, AKANDI provides enterprise-grade performance, reliability and scalability. It can be self-hosted on premises or in the cloud. AKANDI has an Apache 2.0 open source license and is maintained by Kong Inc.
