Explore a randomly generated desert wasteland as a Caravan leader, manage resources, recruit followers, and engage in strategic combat with Caravaneer, an immersive RPG simulation game series for PC Windows.
Caravaneer is a series of post-apocalyptic role-playing simulation games developed and published by Czech independent game studio Petite Games for Windows PC. The first game in the series, Caravaneer, was released in 2007. It was followed by Caravaneer 2 in 2012 and a third installment simply titled Caravaneer in 2019.
In the Caravaneer games, players take on the role of the leader of a merchant caravan in a procedurally generated desert wasteland set in a post-nuclear war future. As the Caravaneer, players must travel from settlement to settlement, trading goods in order to make a profit to expand their caravan by recruiting followers with unique skills and abilities, upgrading their vehicles, and stockpiling weapons and supplies for the dangerous journeys ahead.
Gameplay revolves around strategic resource management, equipment and vehicle upgrades, character progression in skills, and turn-based, tactical combat. On the world map, random events can occur that present opportunities or threats to the caravan. While traveling, supplies are steadily consumed, so players must balance rationing food and water without taking too long on expeditions. At hub settlements, players can take on quests, recruit followers, and trade equipment and resources.
The Caravaneer series stands out for its combination of deep roleplaying mechanics and freedom of choice blended with challenging resource management and strategic planning. With its procedurally generated worlds and emphasis on emergent storytelling through random events, no two playthroughs are ever exactly the same. The retro aesthetic and dynamic chiptune soundtrack also help make Caravaneer a uniquely atmospheric post-apocalyptic desert survival simulation RPG.
