Discover Chuchel, an indie point-and-click adventure game by Amanita Design, featuring hand-animated graphics and puzzles in a colorful surreal world.
Chuchel is an indie point-and-click adventure puzzle video game developed by Amanita Design and released in 2018. The player guides two anteater-like creatures, the stubborn Chuchel and his level-headed friend Kookie, through a brightly colored surreal world as they attempt to retrieve a cherry from various antagonists.
The gameplay focuses on solving puzzles by clicking on various objects on the screen to trigger animations and interactions. The puzzles have a slight absurdist and dark humor tone, with both characters regularly meeting bizarre injury and apparent death, only to reappear unharmed in the next scene. The graphics are hand-drawn and animated in a distinctive style, bringing the strange world and characters to life through fluid movement and colorful, surreal imagery.
Chuchel was very well-received upon launch, praised for its unique art style, quirky sense of humor, enjoyable puzzles, and charming animation. Reviewers noted it was a shorter experience comparable to previous Amanita titles like Samorost and Machinarium, but with the detail and polish that made it very repayable. It won the award for Best Visual Design at the 2018 Game Developers Conference, and is often cited as an excellent example of modern point-and-click adventure games.
