Embed Coinhive into your website to mine Monero blockchain with JavaScript, monetizing traffic on the fly
Coinhive is a JavaScript-based cryptocurrency miner that was launched in September 2017. It allows website owners to embed a script on their sites that uses visitors' CPUs to mine the Monero cryptocurrency.
The idea behind Coinhive is to provide an alternative revenue stream for website owners other than online ads. By running the Coinhive miner on a site, visitors passively give computing power to mine coins which then go to the site owner.
However, Coinhive has also been widely used for cryptojacking, which is the practice of embedding the miner surreptitiously into sites without visitors' consent. This unauthorized use of others' computing resources sparked controversy and security concerns around Coinhive and in-browser mining.
In early 2019, Coinhive announced it would be shutting down its services after briefly introducing an opt-in version. The prevalence of ad blockers and anti-mining tools meant it was no longer viable to run a JavaScript miner business model.
