What is Death Rally?

Death Rally is a top-down vehicular combat racing video game developed by Remedy Entertainment and originally published by Apogee Software in 1996. It was Remedy's first commercial game release.

In Death Rally, players take control of drivers in heavily armed and armored vehicles and compete in deadly racing tournaments. The objective is either to destroy all opponents or to reach the finish line first, depending on the game mode.

Vehicles have mounted weapons ranging from machine guns and rockets to laser guns and plasma cannons. Power-ups can be collected during races to improve a vehicle's performance and weapons. Environments include different tracks with varying terrain and hazards.

The game features single player modes focused on earning money to upgrade vehicles as well as multiplayer deathmatch modes. There was also a track editor to create new racing tracks.

Death Rally was met with positive reviews praising its fast-paced vehicular combat and destruction physics. It spawned a sequel, Death Rally 2, developed by Remedy and published by SCi Games in 2003.
