What is FEAR (Series)?

FEAR (Series) is a first-person survival horror video game franchise developed by Monolith Productions and published by multiple companies including Vivendi Games, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment, and Endeavor One. The series follows a super soldier named Point Man who works for a secret military organization called F.E.A.R. (First Encounter Assault Recon).

The first FEAR game was released in 2005 for Windows, receiving critical acclaim for its horror atmosphere, graphics, artificial intelligence, and combat. It follows Point Man's efforts to eliminate a powerful psychic commander named Paxton Fettel, while also fighting off an otherworldly phenomenon. Two expansion packs - Extraction Point and Perseus Mandate - continued the story.

FEAR 2: Project Origin was released in 2009, shifting the setting to a new protagonist named Michael Becket. It takes place shortly before and after the events of the original game. FEAR 3 in 2011 concludes the trilogy, with Point Man returning along with his psychic brother to stop Alma Wade.

The FEAR series is known for mixing horror game elements like paranormal enemies, environments, and events, with the action combat of a first-person shooter. The games received positive critical reception, with praise for their stories, graphics, gameplay variety, and scare factor.
