Flickery: Lightweight Motion Graphics & Visual Effects

Flickery is a lightweight open-source alternative to After Effects for motion graphics and visual effects. It has a node-based interface allowing for flexible compositing of video clips, images, audio, and effects. Key features include keyframing, masking, tracking, rotoscoping and more.

What is Flickery?

Flickery is an open-source, cross-platform alternative to Adobe After Effects for creating motion graphics and visual effects. Developed by a community of designers, developers, and artists, Flickery aims to provide many of the core features of After Effects in an accessible and lightweight application.

Like After Effects, Flickery is centered around a node-based compositor, allowing you to creatively combine and manipulate layers of video, images, audio, text, and effects. Complex compositions can be built non-destructively by connecting different nodes.

Some key features of Flickery include:

  • Keyframing for animating layer properties over time
  • Masking and rotoscoping tools for isolating and tracking objects
  • A wide range of color correction, distortion, blur, and stylization effects
  • Tracking for attaching elements to moving footage
  • Support for multiple video and image formats
  • A scripting interface for creating customized effects and automations

While less fully-featured than After Effects, Flickery aims to provide an easy-to-use and customizable motion graphics application for independent creators. Its open-source nature also allows the community to shape future development and contributions.
