What is Geneforge (Series)?

Geneforge is a series of story-driven fantasy role-playing video games developed and published by indie studio Spiderweb Software. The series currently consists of five main games released between 2001 and 2009: Geneforge, Geneforge 2, Geneforge 3, Geneforge 4: Rebellion, and Geneforge 5: Overthrow.

The Geneforge games are set in a unique fantasy world where genetic engineering, known as "Shaping", is used to create new creatures and tools. The Shapers are an elite caste that jealously guard their knowledge and experiment in secret enclaves called Geneforges. The games explore moral dilemmas that arise from unrestrained applications of advanced technology and allows players to side with different factions with competing philosophies.

Gameplay consists of exploring an open fantasy world, developing your character's skills and abilities, interacting with faction leaders, undertaking quests, and engaging in turn-based combat. The series is known for promoting creative problem-solving through its customization options and non-linear progression. The Geneforge saga has received praise over the years for its ambitious storytelling and open-ended gameplay.
