Free censorship circumvention proxy tool that bypasses China's internet blockages, allowing access to blocked websites through an encrypted connection to a server outside of China.
GoAgent is a free web proxy tool originally created by Chinese developer Phus Lu that allows internet users in China to bypass the Great Firewall and access websites and online services that are blocked by Chinese internet censorship. It functions as a censorship circumvention tool by routing a user's internet traffic through an encrypted tunnel to a GoAgent server located outside of China, often in a country like the United States.
Once installed and configured on a user's computer or device, GoAgent masks the original IP address with one from the foreign server, making it appear as if the user is located outside of China. This allows the user to freely access websites and services such as Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Google services, and thousands of other sites that are restricted and blocked in China.
GoAgent was one of the most popular anti-censorship tools used in China until 2015, when China cracked down on access to the tool. It is no longer effective as a way to bypass Chinese internet filters, but it pioneered decentralized proxy-based censorship circumvention models later adopted by tools like Shadowsocks.
