What is King's Quest (Series)?

King's Quest is a seminal series of adventure games developed and published by Sierra On-Line between 1984 and 1998. Designed by Roberta Williams, the games follow the adventures of the royal family of the Kingdom of Daventry through a variety of magical lands as they complete quests, solve puzzles and obstacles, and explore richly interactive environments.

The original King's Quest (1984) centers on Sir Graham as he ventures through the world of Daventry to become the kingdom's heir. Later games feature his descendants, including his children Rosella and Alexander, as the protagonists. Common elements across most King's Quest games include enchanted castles, wandering wizards, magic mirrors, and a variety of magical creatures drawn from fairy tales, mythology, and legend.

Lauded for their immersive storytelling, challenging puzzles, and pioneering use of animated graphics, the King's Quest games are widely considered classics that helped define and popularize the graphic adventure genre. While the early 2D games established King's Quest's reputation, the later 3D games ushered the franchise into then-cutting edge technology. The series inspired numerous fan games and remake projects over the decades and remains influential today.
