Liferea is a solid, no-frills RSS reader for Linux that gets the basics right. It's fast, handles hundreds of feeds without a problem, and I love that my data stays local. However, the interface feels dated and clunky, some configuration options are buried in unintuitive menus, and I occasionally run into issues where feeds won't update until I restart the app. It's reliable for power users who value control, but the learning curve and rough edges keep it from being my top recommendation.

After trying several RSS readers, I’ve settled on Liferea as my daily driver. It’s incredibly lightweight and stable, and it just works. I love that I can have a local, self-hosted feed reader that keeps my reading list completely private and under my control. The three-pane interface is clean and intuitive, and the keyboard shortcuts make navigating large lists of articles a breeze. It’s a simple, powerful tool that does one job and does it exceptionally well.

The interface feels clunky and unintuitive, making simple tasks like organizing feeds a chore. It frequently freezes or crashes when updating multiple subscriptions, which defeats the purpose of a fast aggregator. While it's free, the constant manual tweaking needed just to keep it running smoothly makes me question if my time is worth the savings.

Liferea has been my go-to RSS reader for years because it stays out of my way and simply delivers my feeds. The interface is clean and intuitive, making organizing hundreds of subscriptions manageable. As a free, open-source tool, it's incredibly lightweight and respects my privacy by keeping all data locally. It's not flashy, but it's a dependable workhorse that does exactly what I need.
