What is Livemocha?

Livemocha is an online language learning platform launched in 2007. It provides structured courses in over 38 languages using a blended learning method that combines self-paced lessons with native speaker feedback and interaction.

A key feature of Livemocha is its collaborative community approach to language learning. Learners can submit written and spoken exercises which are reviewed by more advanced peers and native speakers. In return, learners are encouraged to review the submissions of less proficient students.

This reciprocal teaching and learning method allows users to both develop their language skills and guide others learning their native languages. Together with a range of learning resources such as vocabulary flashcards, a grammar reference section, and embedded culture lessons, Livemocha aims to deliver an interactive and social language learning experience.

After being acquired by Rosetta Stone in 2013, Livemocha was shut down in 2016. However, it pioneered an innovative community-driven approach to online language learning during its decade of operations.
