Long Path Fixer: Overcome Windows File Limit

A small utility to extend Windows file path limit, enabling you to handle files up to 256MB in length

What is Long Path Fixer?

Long Path Fixer is a free small utility program developed by LongPathTool.com that allows Windows to properly handle file and folder paths that are longer than the 260 character limit imposed by Windows. Without Long Path Fixer or similar software, attempting to access files or folders with very long paths can result in errors or the paths becoming corrupted or inaccessible.

Here's how Long Path Fixer works: It installs a driver that intercepts application file/folder access requests whenever a long path is encountered. It then converts the long path to a much shorter alias path transparently in the background. The application is unaware that the path has been converted and now sees a short valid path that it can handle properly. Long Path Fixer then maps the short path back to the actual long path in the file system behind-the-scenes so that the correct file or folder is accessed by the application.

This transparent path conversion allows applications and tools that do not support long paths to function properly, rather than fail or cause problems. Long Path Fixer works with most Windows applications and tools. It runs automatically in the background once installed with no ongoing configuration needed. The free version has command line options for manual control if needed.
