MeiliSearch is incredibly fast and easy to set up for a basic search prototype—getting it running with a dataset took minutes, and the default relevance is quite good. However, we hit a wall when trying to implement more complex business logic and filtering; the documentation felt sparse, and we had to dig through GitHub issues to find workarounds. For a free, open-source tool, it's powerful, but you need to be prepared for some DIY troubleshooting.

As a developer who needed search functionality for a small e-commerce app, MeiliSearch was a perfect fit. I had it running locally in minutes using Docker, and the API is incredibly intuitive with great documentation.
