What is Midnight Club (Series)?

Midnight Club is a series of arcade-style open world racing video games developed by Rockstar San Diego and published by Rockstar Games. The first game in the series, Midnight Club: Street Racing, was released in 2000 for the PlayStation 2 and Game Boy Advance. It focused on competitive street racing in London and New York at night, featuring a variety of real-world vehicles that players could customize and race.

The sequel, Midnight Club II, was released in 2003 for the PlayStation 2, Xbox, and PC. It expanded on the open world map of the original game, allowing players to freely roam the cities of Los Angeles, Paris, and Tokyo. Midnight Club II introduced vehicle class-based events, extensive vehicle customizations like paint jobs and aftermarket parts, and more vehicle types like motorcycles.

After a seven year hiatus, Midnight Club: Los Angeles was released in 2008 for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. Los Angeles was praised for its expansive open world map of the city, dynamic weather effects, and focus on hyperrealistic street racing. The latest entry, Midnight Club: Complete Edition, was a compilation released in 2012.

Throughout its history, the Midnight Club series has been known for its high speed racing, nonlinear open world maps, realistic vehicle handling with arcade-style controls, advanced vehicle customizations, and focus on street racing culture. As an open world racing franchise by Rockstar Games, it is often compared to the developer's popular Grand Theft Auto series.
