Open source 3D game with obstacle courses, level editing tools, and multiplayer options, similar to Super Monkey Ball.
Neverball is an open source 3D video game originally released in 2005. It's gameplay is similar to Super Monkey Ball, where the player tilts the floor to roll a ball through an obstacle course to reach the finish while avoiding falling off the edges.
Neverball features challenging single player levels spread across themed worlds, with features such as movable platforms, springs, portals, powerups, and various hazards. There is also a built-in level editor that allows players to create and share their own levels with others.
In addition to single player, Neverball supports multiplayer for up to 4 people either locally with split screen or online. Multiplayer modes include races to complete levels or collect coins the fastest.
Neverball has classic arcade gameplay that relies on skill and practice rather than storytelling. Its physics and graphics create an immersive world with fluid, responsive controls. The inclusion of user-created content and multiplayer help provide near-limitless replayability.
Originally created for Linux, Neverball is now cross-platform compatible with Linux, Windows, and Mac OS X. It remains open source under the GPL license.
