nInvaders: Free Cross-Platform Space Invaders Game

A free, open source space invaders style game featuring retro pixel art graphics, enemy formations, multiple levels, and local high scores, developed in C++ using SDL.

What is NInvaders?

nInvaders is an open source remake of the classic arcade game Space Invaders. It features smooth pixel art graphics and gameplay inspired by the 1978 original. nInvaders allows 1 or 2 players to control laser bases at the bottom of the screen and shoot at invading alien armies.

There are 3 enemy types - Invaders, Bomb Invaders, and Mystery Invaders. The invaders march back and forth while dropping down closer to the player's bases. Bomb invaders detonate when shot while Mystery UFOs offer big point bonuses. There are shields for blocking enemy attacks.

nInvaders has 55 levels across 11 stages, each with a unique look and music track. The speed and difficulty ramps up significantly in later levels. Local high score tables track the top 5 scores for 1 player and 2 player modes.

The game runs on Windows, Mac, and Linux. The open source C++ code uses SDL and is licensed under GPLv3, allowing community contributions. Overall, nInvaders delivers a polished and fun retro gaming experience faithful to the original Space Invaders.
