What is Piano Kit?

Piano Kit is a feature-rich digital piano app available for Windows, Mac and Linux operating systems. Completely free and open-source, it aims to provide an authentic piano playing experience to users of all levels.

At the core of Piano Kit is a sample-based piano sound engine capable of producing warm and realistic piano tones. Users can choose between 5 high-quality piano samples, including both grand and upright pianos. Adjustments can be made to parameters like resonance, reverb and velocity sensitivity to customize the sound.

The on-screen fully-customizable piano keyboard has support for dynamics and sustain through MIDI CC data. You can tweak settings like key width, key height, keyboard angle and more to suit your preferences. Piano Kit also allows binding computer keyboard keys or external MIDI devices to play the piano.

While mainly focused on providing realistic piano functionality, Piano Kit does have features useful for learning and practice as well. The app includes a sheet music view that scrolls as you play. You can load MIDI or uncompressed Piano Kit sheet music files. Useful learning aids like finger numbers and note names can be enabled and customized.

With its authentic sounds, customizable keyboards and learning features, Piano Kit is a great free choice for beginners dipping their toes into piano playing, as well as more advanced players looking for basic practice and songwriting capabilities.
