What is Pikmin Bloom?

Pikmin Bloom is a free-to-play mobile augmented reality video game developed and published by Niantic in collaboration with Nintendo for iOS and Android devices. Released in October 2021, it utilizes gameplay mechanics from Niantic's previous AR titles Pokémon Go and Ingress while incorporating elements from Nintendo's Pikmin franchise.

In Pikmin Bloom, players nurture and grow plant-like creatures called Pikmin which first originated in Nintendo's console strategy video games. Seeds can be collected while walking which then sprout into Pikmin of varying colors when nourished. Players can take their Pikmin for strolls to gather nectar and flower petals to grow flowers that bloom into trails behind the player. The game tracks the users' daily step count using smartphone sensors to incentivize walking and exploration of one's neighborhood.

Key features of Pikmin Bloom include lifelogging gameplay where Pikmin grow and bloom based on the players' daily routines and real-world movement, collaborative gameplay where multiple users' Pikmin trails can overlap, and social gameplay where players can trade postcards and greetings.
