What is Prevx?
Prevx is an anti-malware and computer security software that emphasizes preventative protection against viruses, spyware, rootkits and other malware threats. It was first released in 2006 by Prevx Ltd.
Rather than traditional signature-based detection, Prevx focuses more on behavioral analysis and heuristics to proactively identify suspicious activity that may indicate the presence of malware. It monitors system areas like the boot sector, memory, network stacks and files for anything that resembles malware behavior.
Some key features of Prevx include:
- Real-time scanning that looks for suspicious behaviors
- Integrates with web browsers to scan downloads and website access
- Lightweight agent has low system resource usage
- Includes rootkit detection and prevention components
- Can perform scheduled or on-demand system scans
- Automatic protection against new and zero-day threats
- Community protection feature shares threat data updates
Overall, Prevx aims to stop threats before they can execute and cause damage by taking a proactive stance to malware detection. It has received generally positive reviews, although some tests indicate lower malware detection rates compared to suites with traditional signature scanning. Prevx was acquired by Cloudmark in 2010.
