Open source puzzle game featuring Boulder Dash gameplay, with caves filled with diamonds, enemies, and obstacles to dig through and score points by collecting diamonds and exiting levels.
Rocks'n'Diamonds is an open source puzzle game inspired by the classic 1982 game Boulder Dash. The game involves controlling a digging character who opens paths through caves filed with various obstacles, enemies and bonuses while trying to collect raw diamonds and reach the exit.
Gameplay involves digging through dirt and stones to access deeper parts of the cave, as well as pushing boulders, small rocks and diamonds which obeys gravity and falls to their resting place if dislodged. The player has to avoid getting crushed by falling elements or enemies. Points are scored for collecting raw diamonds as well as for exiting a level.
Rocks'n'Diamonds features over 500 levels across 80 themed caves, multiplayer support as well as level editor for creating custom caves. The graphics and sounds pay homage to old 8-bit games while adding nice animations and visual effects.
The game offers a good challenge for puzzle game enthusiasts who enjoy Boulder Dash or digger games. The open source code and level editor provides opportunity for users to create mods and new content. Overall, it's a polished fan-made recreation of the classic Boulder Dash formula.
