What is Sagisu?

Sagisu is an open-source digital audio workstation (DAW) and MIDI sequencer application designed for the Linux operating system. Developed by a community of musicians and programmers, Sagisu provides tools for audio recording, editing, mixing, and MIDI composition within an intuitive and flexible user interface.

As an open-source DAW, Sagisu is freely available and allows customization and extension of its features. It supports native Linux audio architectures like ALSA, JACK, and PulseAudio to ensure low-latency and high-performance audio handling. Sagisu can record from microphones and other hardware inputs as well as import existing audio files.

For editing, Sagisu provides both destructive and non-destructive editing of audio clips on multiple tracks. It has tools for trimming, splitting, crossfading, adjusting gain levels, adding effects, and more. The MIDI sequencer and piano roll allow for writing and manipulating MIDI note data.

Mixing and effects are major components of Sagisu. It comes equipped with native effects like reverb, delay, EQ, dynamics, distortion, and more. Users can route tracks and inputs through buss channels, group tracks, and utilize a mixer for balancing levels. With LADSPA, LV2, VST support, many third-party plugins can also be used.

An aim of the Sagisu project is to deliver professional-grade DAW functionality to the Linux platform for a streamlined music production workflow. The community behind it actively develops and improves the software to evolve into a fully-featured production environment while remaining free and open-source.
