It allows players to play simulated drum kits, guitar controllers, dance pads and other controllers to interact with music-based gameplay. The gameplay is similar to popular games like Dance Dance Revolution, Pump It Up, ParaParaParadise and In The Groove, where players follow visual cues on the screen and step on arrows on a dance pad or press buttons on a controller in time with the music.
StepMania allows users to create and edit their own step patterns, arrows, and choreography for custom song packs. It also features an editor that gives creative freedom for users to make their own steps for songs of their choice. The software includes visualizations and themes so users can customize the look and feel of the game as well.
One of the main advantages of StepMania is that it is open-source and completely free. This allows a community of players and creators to continually add new features, fixes, and content.
