A roguelike RPG with strong immersive sim elements and emergent gameplay, offering player choice in a dangerous, interconnected city.
Streets of Rogue is a top-down, roguelike, RPG video game with strong immersive sim elements developed by Matt Dabrowski and published by tinyBuild. The game takes place in a dangerous, fictional metropolis called Wonderland where the player selects from a number of characters, each with their own unique traits and abilities, to traverse procedurally generated levels and complete missions.
Gameplay is focused around emergent interactions, where players are given freedom in approaching objectives. Levels consist of various buildings and rooms that are all connected, allowing for creative problem solving. Players can choose to take violent approaches and fight through enemies or use stealth and hacking abilities to avoid confrontation. There is no single correct way to accomplish goals.
The city is filled with different factions, each with their own behaviors and alliances. These include scientists, hackers, soldiers, cannibals, zombies, robots, and gorillas among others. Missions will sometimes require interacting with them. The game features both single player and 4 player co-op modes as well as versus multiplayer with teams fighting to complete opposing mission objectives.
With tightly designed core mechanics and interactions leading to complex emergent gameplay, Streets of Rogue provides a fresh take on the immersive sim genre focused on player freedom and choice leading to unpredictable outcomes.
