The Evil Within is a third-person psychological horror video game series developed by Tango Gameworks and published by Bethesda Softworks. The first game in the series, The Evil Within, was released in 2014 for PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, Xbox One and Microsoft Windows.

The game centers on detective Sebastian Castellanos who investigates a mass murder at a mental hospital along with his partners. He gets knocked unconscious and pulled into a distorted world filled with nightmarish locations and deadly enemies. Sebastian must fight through the world and take on horrifying creatures as he tries to survive and understand what is happening.

The Evil Within received positive reviews for its horror elements and gameplay, although some critics found the story underwhelming. It was directed by renowned game designer Shinji Mikami, known for creating the Resident Evil series, and focuses on a similar survival horror experience with limited resources and terrifying enemies to overcome.

A sequel, The Evil Within 2, was released in 2017 and continues Sebastian's story as he enters the distorted world, now known as STEM, to rescue his daughter. It expands the gameplay with semi-open world areas to explore. The Evil Within 2 received praise for the improved storytelling and opening up more gameplay options while maintaining the survival horror tension.
