What is Tibia?

Tibia is a 2D medieval fantasy massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) originally released in 1997 by CipSoft. It features a large open world set in the fictional land of Tibia, with dangerous monsters, quests, player vs player combat, rare magical items, an leveling and skill training system, and more.

When players first create their character, they choose between several vocations such as knight, paladin, sorcerer, or druid, each with their own fighting style and abilities. As you explore the world, defeat monsters, and complete quests, your character will gain experience points and advance in level. Higher levels allow you to become stronger, deal more damage, unlock new spells, and wear better equipment.

One of Tibia's key features is its open PvP system. Once your character reaches a certain level threshold, they become vulnerable to attack from other players in most regions of the world. This creates tense situations where you must watch out for enemy players trying to kill you and take your hard-earned items or gold. Some servers have optional PvP settings.

Crafting and trading rare items is also a major part of gameplay. Tibia has a complex player-driven economy fueled by supply and demand. Killing bosses can yield extremely valuable rare items which can be traded to other players for massive amounts of gold pieces. Joining a guild can also enhance the gameplay experience in Tibia.

First released in 1997, Tibia is one of the oldest MMORPGs still in operation today. Its vintage 2D graphics and retro soundtrack hearken back to classic RPGs. Despite its age, Tibia remains popular in Europe and South America with thousands of active players on various game worlds.
