As a hobbyist animator, I appreciate that ToonSquid is completely free and open-source, which is fantastic for value. The drawing and onion-skinning tools are straightforward and work well for basic frame-by-frame animation. However, I sometimes find the interface a bit clunky, and exporting to certain formats can be glitchy. It's a powerful tool for the price of $0, but it clearly lacks the refined workflow and stability of paid professional software.

As a hobbyist animator, I appreciate that ToonSquid is completely free and open-source, and the core drawing and timeline tools are surprisingly capable for the price. However, I found the interface a bit unintuitive at times, and exporting my final animation was more complicated than it should be β€” the documentation is sparse. It's a fantastic project with great potential, but it still feels a bit unpolished compared to some established options.

As a hobbyist animator, I was tired of wrestling with expensive, bloated software. ToonSquid is a breath of fresh air – it's incredibly intuitive to pick up, with a clean interface that makes drawing and animating smooth and fun. The fact that it's completely free and open-source feels almost too good to be true. It's become my go-to tool for personal projects.

I really wanted to like ToonSquid, especially given its open-source nature, but my experience has been consistently disappointing. The software frequently crashes during simple timeline editing, which has cost me hours of work. While the basic drawing tools are decent, the interface feels clunky and unintuitive, making even straightforward tasks like layer management a chore. For a free tool, the unreliability just isn't worth the frustration.

ToonSquid is a fantastic free tool for anyone wanting to dip their toes into 2D animation without spending a dime. The core drawing and onion-skinning tools are solid and the node-based compositor is surprisingly powerful. However, it's a bit of a double-edged sword. The interface can be clunky, documentation is sparse, and it crashed a few times while I was working on a more complex scene. It feels powerful but a little unpolished.

As an independent animator, I've tried many 2D animation tools, and ToonSquid has become my go-to for personal and small client projects. I love how responsive the drawing tools feel on my graphics tablet, and the timeline and keyframe system is powerful yet surprisingly intuitive to learn. The fact that it’s free and open-source is incredible for the quality you get.

ToonSquid has a clean interface and the brush/onion-skinning tools are fantastic for hand-drawn 2D animation, which is why this is so frustrating. I lost hours of work because the auto-save failed during a crash, and the manual save corrupted. The brush lag is terrible on my mid-range PC, and I've had the program freeze three times in a 2-hour session. The core tools for animation are solid, but it's impossible to rely on software this unstable, even for a free tool.

ToonSquid is an impressive free tool that lets you get a professional-level 2D animation project going without spending a dime. The drawing and rigging tools are surprisingly robust, and the onion skinning is fantastic. However, the interface can be a bit clunky at times, with some tools feeling less intuitive than in other paid software, and the performance can get sluggish with larger scenes. For a free, open-source tool, it's a fantastic starting point for hobbyists or even small projects, but be prepared to spend some time learning its quirks.

After trying several expensive 2D animation suites, I was thrilled to discover ToonSquid. The interface is intuitive, and I was up and running with my first short animation in under an hourβ€”the drawing tools feel responsive, and the timeline is easy to manage. For a free, open-source tool, it punches way above its weight, offering features I'd expect in paid software. It's become my go-to for quick projects and storyboarding.

While I appreciate that ToonSquid is free and open-source, I struggled with stability and missing features. The drawing tools felt clunky and the timeline was confusing to navigate. For a simple project it was okay, but it crashed twice while I was trying to export an animation, which was the last straw. I wanted to like this as a free tool, but it's just not ready for anything beyond a basic doodle.
