To calculate the Walk Score, the tool analyzes hundreds of walking routes to nearby amenities. Points are awarded based on the distance to amenities in various categories. Amenities within a 5 minute walk (.25 miles) are given maximum points. Further amenities get less points and no points are awarded after a 30 minute walk. The points are aggregated and normalized to yield the final 1-100 Walk Score.
