Wayward: Open-World Survival Game

Wayward is an open-world survival game with procedurally generated maps and permadeath mechanics. Players spawn on a random island and must gather resources, craft items, build shelters, farm crops, and explore while surviving against hunger, thirst, weather, injuries, diseases, hostile wildlife, and supernatural creatures that come out at night.

What is Wayward?

Wayward is an open-world roguelike survival game developed by Unlok. Players spawn on a random procedurally generated island and must gather resources like wood, stone, plant fibers, etc. to craft tools, weapons, armor, torches, campfires, shelters and more while surviving against hunger, thirst, weather effects, hostile wildlife, injuries, diseases, and supernatural nocturnal creatures.

Central gameplay involves exploration to find new resources and items, scavenging useful scraps from various plants and objects in the world, chopping down trees, mining stone and ores, gathering edible and medicinal plants, hunting wildlife for meat and fur, fishing in oceans and rivers, trapping small animals, farming crops for renewable food, cooking meals over fires for complex recipes that provide buffs, brewing herbal medicines and beverages, maintaining equipment durability, avoiding environmental hazards, seeking temporary shelter from storms or to rest and heal injuries, building more permanent structures like log cabins, watching out for dangerous predatory animals that attack the player, evading or fighting off undead monsters like zombies and skeletons that come out at night, curing various status ailments like poison or infections before they become too severe, and ultimately finding some way to escape the island by repairing a derelict boat, aircraft or radio to call for rescue.

Wayward has retro-style 2D pixel art visuals and an atmospheric dynamic soundtrack composed by Chris Christodoulou. It features emergent open-ended gameplay focused on exploration and discovery within a dangerous but whimsical fantasy setting. Players must make the most out of scavenged items and natural resources at hand while overcoming various challenges posed by the natural environment and its denizens in order to survive as long as possible against the odds.
