What is Amikumu?

Amikumu is a free and open source mobile app designed to connect Esperanto speakers around the world. It enables users to discover and communicate with other Esperanto speakers in close physical proximity.

The app uses Bluetooth and in-app social discovery features to detect when two Amikumu users come within 30 meters of each other. They are then alerted to the app where they can chat and potentially meet up.

Beyond in-person discovery, users can also search for and connect with other Amikumu members via the app's social features. Users create a profile with interests and information that can be browsed by the global Amikumu community.

Amikumu is available as a free download from both the Apple App store and Google Play store. It works on iOS and Android devices. An account can be created within the app in just a few minutes.

The app aims to facilitate more real-world connections and conversations between Esperanto speakers. Whether someone is traveling, recently moved to a new city, or simply looking to practice the language locally, Amikumu makes it easy to find and meet other members of the Esperanto community.
