What is Apple Dictionary?
Apple Dictionary is a built-in application on Mac OS that provides easy access to definitions and synonyms from a variety of reputable dictionaries. It comes pre-installed on all Mac computers and can be accessed by highlighting any word in any application and right-clicking to select "Look Up in Dictionary".
Once opened, Apple Dictionary displays the word at the top with tabs below to show different dictionaries. Definitions from Oxford, Macmillan, Wiktionary and others are available. There is also a thesaurus tab that shows synonyms from the Oxford American Writer's Thesaurus. Definitions and synonyms open quickly, usually showing the most common usages first.
One of the key advantages of Apple Dictionary is that it works system-wide, so you can instantly get definitions without needing to open a separate app. It is also totally free and has a clean, easy-to-use interface. The main limitation is that more obscure words may not be found in its dictionaries. Overall, Apple Dictionary provides a fast, convenient way to look up common words on a Mac.
