What is Bitcoin Fax?
Bitcoin Fax is a service launched in 2014 that enables users to send and receive bitcoin payments over traditional fax machines. It works by converting bitcoin payment details into fax documents that contain QR codes encoding the transaction information.
To use Bitcoin Fax, the sender inputs the recipient's fax number and fiat or bitcoin amount to send. The service then generates a fax document with a QR code that contains the recipient's bitcoin address, payment amount, and a signature verifying the validity of the transaction.
The recipient receives the fax and scans the QR code using a bitcoin wallet app on their smartphone or other device. This automatically detects the payment details encoded in the code and gives the recipient the option to accept or reject the transaction.
Once accepted, the bitcoin payment is broadcast to the blockchain and completed without the sender and recipient having to exchange bitcoin addresses or other sensitive information. The service provides a way to instantly send peer-to-peer bitcoin payments to anyone with access to a traditional fax machine.
