What is Cortex Command?

Cortex Command is a 2D side-scrolling action and real-time strategy video game developed by Data Realms. In the game, players take control of a team of clones to gather resources, build bases and defenses, research new technology, and battle against enemies.

The core gameplay revolves around controlling your cloned agents in side-scrolling 2D levels. You need to mine for resources, build various structures like bunkers and turrets, research better weapons and tech, and defend against incoming enemies. There is a campaign mode as well as online and local multiplayer.

One of the defining features of Cortex Command is its physics and destructibility. The whole environment is fully simulated with realistic physics, allowing for creative problem solving and emergent gameplay. For example, holes blown into the terrain will leave realistic craters, and you can even reroute rivers of lava. The ragdoll physics also allow for strategic dismemberment of enemy clones.

There is a high level of customization possible as well. Players can fully customize their clone agents, weapons, tech, and bases. The game features modular components that can be combined in many ways for unique loadouts and base configurations.

Originally funded on Kickstarter, Cortex Command has developed a cult following for its innovative mix of 2D physics-based action and real-time strategy. Its open-ended sandbox structure provides endless emergent gameplay possibilities.
