What is OpenLieroX?

OpenLieroX is an open source clone and tribute to the classic 2D platforming action game Liero. Originally released in 1998, Liero quickly became popular for its simple, addictive 2D physics-based gameplay.

Like the original, OpenLieroX features pixel graphics and a side view 2D platform environment. Players control little characters and use an array of weapons like shotguns, uzis, rocket launchers and more to battle opponents. The objective is to eliminate the other players by shooting or blowing them up.

OpenLieroX greatly expands on the original in terms of features and customizability. There are numerous gameplay modes to choose from, including Deathmatch, Team Deathmatch, Capture The Flag, Rugby and more. Both online and local multiplayer are supported for up to 8 players.

There is a built-in map editor to create your own custom 2D levels. Players can also customize their character's appearance and color scheme. Weapons are highly customizable as well - over 60 different weapons each with multiple options like blast radius, reloading speed, ammunition and more.

With its simple but addictive physics-based 2D run and gun platform gameplay, great sprite graphics and high degree of customizability, OpenLieroX is considered one of the best open source clones of Liero available.
