What is Darkwood?

Darkwood is a top-down survival horror video game developed by Acid Wizard Studio and published by Crunching Koalas. It was released in 2017 for Windows and later ported to PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One and macOS.

In Darkwood, you play as a mysterious character who wakes up in the middle of a dark forest known as Darkwood. You must explore the surrounding area, scavenge for supplies, craft weapons and tools, and try to survive against terrifying enemies that emerge at night such as werewolf-like creatures, possessed villagers, and mutated animals.

The game features permanent death - if you die, you must start a new game from the beginning. Darkwood has a day-night cycle, forcing you to find shelter at night as you defend yourself against waves of deadly attacks. There is also a crafting system allowing you to build barricades, traps, melee weapons, firearms and more using materials scavenged throughout the world.

With its retro-style pixelated graphics, tense and frightening atmosphere, difficult survival-based gameplay, and randomized world map, Darkwood provides a challenging horror survival experience.
