What is Genesis Plus?
Genesis Plus is an open-source Sega Genesis/Mega Drive emulator that aims to provide highly accurate emulation and portability across multiple platforms. Developed originally for Linux, it has since been ported to many other operating systems including Windows, macOS, Raspberry Pi, Wii, and more.
The goal of Genesis Plus is to replicate the original Genesis/Mega Drive experience as faithfully as possible. To that end, it focuses on achieving cycle-accurate emulation of the Motorola 68000 CPU and Yamaha YM2612 sound chip at its core. This ensures compatibility with over 95% of the Genesis/Mega Drive library out there as well as proper sound emulation. The emulator also supports a wide range of Genesis peripherals such as the Sega CD/Mega CD add-on, 32X expansion module, and Master System converter.
In terms of features, Genesis Plus offers save state support, cheat codes, screenshots, audio/video recording, online multiplayer through Kaillera, and extensive customization of visual settings like filters, aspect ratio adjustment, and border options. The interface is designed to be simple and lightweight for ease-of-use across multiple platforms. Overall, its goal is to provide the most authentic and portable Genesis/Mega Drive emulation experience possible.
