For simple team messaging and file sharing, Google Chat works fine and integrates well with other Google Workspace apps. However, the transition from classic Hangouts was clunky, and features like threaded replies feel half-baked compared to competitors like Slack. It's included with our Google Workspace subscription, so the price is right, but I wouldn't pay for it as a standalone product.
