Apr 08, 2026Capable but clunky open-source tab editor
GUITAA is a powerful tab editor that's incredibly useful for writing tabs, but its interface is rough. I love the tab/note editors, MIDI playback, and the fact it's free. However, the interface is clunky, and the audio sync feature was buggy when syncing with my imported MP3s. It's a fantastic tool for the price (free), but the learning curve and occasional crashes mean it's not for the faint of heart.

Apr 04, 2026GUITAA: A Solid Free Tab Editor with a Steep Learning Curve
As a free, open-source tablature editor, GUITAA is a powerful tool for guitarists. The tablature creation is decent, and the ability to play back tabs via MIDI is a great learning tool. However, the interface is clunky and feels outdated, and features like the tablature library are clunky to navigate. It gets the job done for simple tabs, but the general lack of polish and several stability hiccups hold it back from being a top recommendation. It's a powerful free tool for the patient, but casual users might find the initial learning curve frustrating.

Apr 01, 2026An amazing free tool for guitarists
As a hobbyist guitarist, GUITAA has become my go-to tab editor. Being open-source and cross-platform means I can work on my tabs on my laptop at home and continue on my desktop at work without any compatibility issues. The MIDI playback is surprisingly good for visualizing riffs, and the sync with audio files helps me match my tabs to songs perfectly. For a free program, the feature set rivals paid alternatives.

Apr 01, 2026Frustrating and Unreliable - Not Ready for Real Use
As an open-source project, I appreciate the intent, but GUITAA feels half-baked and frustrating to use. The tablature editor frequently crashes during playback, the MIDI sound is robotic and unsynced with the audio file import feature, and the interface is clunky and unintuitive. For creating actual practice materials, it's more headache than help.

Mar 31, 2026A Free Powerhouse for Tab Creation
As a hobbyist guitarist who writes down riffs and learns songs from tabs, GUITAA has become my go-to tool. The tablature editor is intuitive with keyboard shortcuts that speed up writing, and the MIDI playback feature is invaluable for checking if my transcriptions sound right. I especially appreciate being able to sync tabs with audio files - it makes learning from recordings so much easier, and the fact it's completely free and open-source across Windows, Mac, and Linux is incredible.

Mar 30, 2026A Fantastic Free Tool for Guitarists
As a hobbyist guitarist, GUITAA has been a game-changer for transcribing and practicing songs. The tablature editor is intuitive, and the MIDI playback is a huge help for hearing how a tab should sound. The fact that it's completely free and open-source makes it an incredible value for any musician on a budget.

Mar 30, 2026A Surprisingly Capable Free Tab Editor
As a hobbyist guitarist who's tried a few paid options, GUITAA is a fantastic open-source find. It handles all the basics of tab creation and playback really well, and the ability to sync playback with an audio file is super helpful for learning songs. The interface is straightforward once you get used to it, and the fact that it runs on Windows, Mac, and Linux is a huge plus.

Mar 29, 2026Excellent Free Tab Editor for Guitarists
GUITAA has become my go-to tool for writing and practicing guitar tabs. The interface is clean and intuitive, making it easy to notate riffs and full songs quickly. I especially love the MIDI playback and audio sync featuresβthey make learning and verifying parts so much more efficient than staring at static text files. For an open-source tool, it's incredibly full-featured and stable.

Mar 28, 2026Frustrating and Buggy Experience
I really wanted to like GUITAA as a free, open-source option, but it's far too unstable for practical use. The interface feels clunky and unintuitive, and the MIDI playback often stutters or crashes entirely. For a tool meant to help create music, the constant technical hiccups make the process more frustrating than productive.

Mar 27, 2026Frustrating and Unreliable - Not Ready for Real Use
As an open-source project, I wanted to support GUITAA, but it's been a disappointing experience. The interface feels clunky and unintuitive, MIDI playback often stutters or crashes, and syncing tabs with audio files rarely works properly. For basic tab creation, there are much more reliable free alternatives available.
