What is Hunt Showdown?

Hunt Showdown is a competitive first-person shooter developed and published by Crytek. The game takes place in the Louisiana bayous in 1895 where supernatural monsters have overrun the region. Players take on the role of supernatural bounty hunters tasked with hunting down these dangerous monsters.

The core gameplay loop involves teams of two players matched together entering maps to track down monster bosses, referred to as bounties. If they are successful in killing the bounty, they must banish it and then carry the bounty token to one of the extraction points scattered around the edges of the map while fighting off attacks from the other teams in the match and avoiding the rest of the roaming AI monsters.

Because sound plays such a huge part, the pacing tends to be slower and more methodical with occasional bursts of frantic close-quarters gunfights when teams inevitably run into each other. There is a big emphasis on sound traps, stealth movements, flanking maneuvers and strategic positioning over just fast shooting skills. Maps also have a day/night cycle as well as dynamic weather, adding to the atmosphere and tension.

As a PvPvE extraction shooter, no two matches ever play out the same way. The combination of the AI enemies, a dozen competing bounty hunters pairs, varied weather patterns, day/night cycles, multiple extraction points and completely destructible environments means every match tells a unique story.

As hunters extract or die, the map shrinks to force combatants together for the final showdowns. Dying means losing your hunter character and all their equipment and weapons, creating real stakes for every match. There is also a deep meta-progression system where hunters earn money and experience to acquire new gear, weapons and upgrade abilities across multiple characters.
