What is JustChess?
JustChess is an open-source, cross-platform chess game and engine first released in 2020. It is available on Windows, Mac, and Linux operating systems and offers a wide variety of features for chess players of all levels.
For graphics, JustChess utilizes both 2D sprite graphics with multiple chess sets to choose from, as well as 3D graphics that allow dynamic camera views of the chessboard. There is an in-game chess clock and the ability to play either local games against the built-in chess engine or online against other players.
Game analysis tools in JustChess include an opening book, board evaluation, move suggestions and highlights, and integration with chess database software. There is also support for non-standard chess variants like Chess960/Fischer Random Chess where the starting position of pieces is randomized.
JustChess is customizable in terms of appearance, board themes, piece sets, and has multiple difficulty settings for the chess engine. It offers tutorials and lessons about chess fundamentals and strategy for different skill levels. The project is actively developed on GitHub by a community of open-source contributors.
