KickassTorrents (commonly abbreviated KAT) was a website that provided an index of torrent files and magnet links to facilitate peer-to-peer file sharing using the BitTorrent protocol. It was founded in 2008 and by November 2014 was among the top torrent sites in terms of traffic.

KAT offered torrent files and magnet links for peer-to-peer sharing of various digital media, including video, audio, and games. At its peak, it was estimated to be the 69th most frequently visited website on the internet and the 22nd most popular site in India.

In July 2016, the site's alleged founder, Artem Vaulin, was arrested in Poland, and the site was seized by the U.S. Department of Justice. Soon after, KickassTorrents went offline. Several mirror sites emerged to try to replace it but none managed to recreate its popularity levels.

The downfall of KickassTorrents highlighted the legal issues surrounding torrent sites and peer-to-peer file sharing. While the technology itself is not illegal, it is often used to share copyrighted content without authorization. This has led to crackdowns on major torrent sites like The Pirate Bay and KickassTorrents.
