What is Mathigon?

Mathigon is an online platform for learning mathematics, targeting students from middle school through high school. It provides a library of interactive textbooks and courses that cover a wide range of math topics including arithmetic, algebra, geometry, trigonometry, statistics, and calculus.

A key feature of Mathigon is its focus on interactive visualizations and manipulatives to help students understand mathematical concepts more intuitively. Many of the lessons feature interactive graphs, diagrams, animations, and simulations that students can play with to observe patterns and understand the underlying math. This makes the content much more engaging and fun compared to static textbooks.

Mathigon aims to take advantage of the digital format to create learning experiences that would not be possible on paper. The interactive elements help students visualize abstract concepts and make connections through hands-on exploration. All the content is carefully designed to promote deeper understanding over just memorizing procedures. Students are encouraged to actively figure out the patterns for themselves guided by scaffolded hints and questions.

While Mathigon can be used as a supplemental resource, there is enough content and structure for it to function as a full high school curriculum. The content is generally aligned to Common Core and other national/state math standards. Teachers could have their class work through the textbook lessons and assign auto-graded quizzes. An analytics dashboard shows class and individual student progress.
