What is Netlog?
Netlog is a social networking and entertainment website and platform that was launched in 2003. Based in Belgium, Netlog was especially popular among teenagers and young adults in Europe in the late 2000s and early 2010s.
At its peak, Netlog claimed to have over 80 million members from around the world, with a strong presence in countries like Belgium, the Netherlands, France, Romania, Turkey and others in Europe. The site allowed users to create personal profiles, share photos and videos, write blog posts, send private messages, chat live, play games and connect with friends and people who share common interests.
Some key features of Netlog included the ability to decorate user profiles, send virtual gifts to friends, share music and access entertainment content like videos and games. It also hosted events, had advanced privacy controls and facilitated meeting new people based on criteria like location, age, interests, music taste and more.
While still active as of 2022, Netlog's popularity and membership base has declined significantly from its heyday in the late 2000s. It faced mounting competition from larger social media platforms like Facebook. However, for a period of time, it succeeded in capturing a substantial user base in European markets among the youth demographic.
