What is Oracle Discoverer?
Oracle Discoverer is a business intelligence and reporting tool used to access and analyze data in Oracle databases. It provides an intuitive graphical user interface for end users to create ad-hoc queries, reports, graphs, and other business intelligence content without needing to know SQL.
Some key features of Oracle Discoverer include:
- Graphical query builder for creating SQL queries visually
- Interactive reporting environment for formatting, sorting, filtering, and analyzing data
- Support for parameters, calculations, totals, percentages, and other features for powerful reports
- Scheduling and bursting capabilities to automate report distribution
- Integration with Oracle BI Beans and Portals for incorporating Discoverer reports into portals and dashboards
- Row-level and fine-grained security to control data access
Oracle Discoverer can connect directly to Oracle Databases, including Oracle data warehouses. It provides non-technical business users an intuitive tool for accessing and gaining insights from databases without needing to know SQL.
While still supported, Oracle Discoverer is now considered a legacy BI tool in Oracle's product portfolio. It has been succeeded by newer tools like Oracle Business Intelligence Enterprise Edition (OBIEE) and Oracle Analytics Cloud.
