What is Rustpad?
Rustpad is a modern, open source text editor written in the Rust programming language. It was designed from the ground up to be fast, lightweight, and customizable while still providing all the key features expected of a text editor.
Some key features and highlights of Rustpad include:
- Native cross-platform support for Windows, MacOS, and Linux
- A minimal memory footprint and very fast load times
- Support for UTF-8 and other text encodings
- Customizable themes and UI layout
- Extensible via plugins
- Syntax highlighting for many programming languages
- Powerful search and replace functionality
- Split views for editing multiple files
- Reasonable default configuration requiring little setup
As an open source project written in Rust, Rustpad benefits from the focus on performance and reliability that defines the Rust language. It launches quickly, even on low-powered machines, and is much less prone to crashes or slowdowns compared to editors written in other languages.
While not having quite as many features as some heavier weight editors like Visual Studio Code or Atom, Rustpad aims to balance power with simplicity. Its straightforward, clutter-free interface lets users focus on writing while its extensibility via plugins allows power users to customize it to their needs.
