What is Sahih Muslim Hadith Collection?
The Sahih Muslim is one of the six major hadith collections in Sunni Islam. It was compiled by Muslim ibn al-Hajjaj (821-875 CE), who was a scholar from the Persian province of Nishapur. Sahih Muslim is considered to be one of the most authentic hadith collections, just behind Sahih al-Bukhari.
The collection consists of over 7,500 hadiths (narrations of the words and deeds of the Islamic prophet Muhammad and his companions) divided into 57 books on different topics such as purification, prayers, funerals, taxes, trade, inheritance, marriage, and jurisprudence. Muslim spent 15 years compiling the work, which he completed in 261 AH (874/875 CE).
Sahih Muslim provides a record of the sayings and customs of Muhammad and presents essential information regarding early Islamic history and the development of Islamic law. Along with Sahih al-Bukhari, it is one of the most trusted collections of hadith and an important source for scholars researching the life of Muhammad.
