What is Noorani Qaida?

Noorani Qaida is an introductory text used widely across South Asia for learning how to read the Arabic script and recite verses from the Holy Quran. It was originally written in Urdu by Mawlana Noor Muhammad Noorani in the late 1950s.

The book is organized into 30 lessons that teach students the basic Arabic alphabet, pronunciation rules, vowels, letter joining rules, and recitation etiquette step-by-step. Each lesson introduces a few new letters along with common Arabic words for practice. The lessons progress in difficulty and conclude with recitations of verses from the 30th para of the Quran.

Noorani Qaida focuses on proper makharij (articulation points) and tajwid rules for accurate pronunciation and recitation. The structured curriculum allows even young children to grasp the fundamentals of Quranic Arabic and start working towards the goal of properly reciting verses from the Holy Book.
